The Myth of the Independent Life: Why Your Actions Are Never Just Your Own

We’ve somewhat grown to be this selfish beings, an arrogant people. A case for debate but truth remains; so long my family and I are okay, no one else matters. Why is that? What happened to humanity, love and togetherness.

The motto: It takes a village to raise a child seems like a myth. We’re never sorry for our actions but only panic when the aftermath is pointing fingers at us negatively. I can say anything and do whatever I please, afterall; my life my choice. Have you carefully considered at whose cost, you do these? Be it good or bad, there is always a reaction for every action. Carefully choose what’s right.

The Unusual

Screeching tyres,

Screams and shouts everywhere,

Mob gathering at the roadside,

Sighing, in shock and remorseful of what transpired,

A toddler in a pool of blood,

Lying lifeless,

As the drunk driver attempts to resuscitate the child.

~ Poem by Nnessy

Looking at the above poem: not servicing your car was meant to affect you, but the couple of dollars saved, aren’t equivalent to lives lost when involved in an accident. Drinking is supposed to affect the recipient, but driving in such a state affects others sharing the highway with you. The drunk driver tried resuscitating the dead child, which most of us do. Logically, impossible. Better if we make amends in some cases because not everything is reversal. Why partake in something that affects others? Time to go back to the simple elementary principles: be kind, be nice…

If consequences of your actions affect more humanity than yourself, refrain from it. I know you can argue, utilitarianism. Whatever they case, lets have empathy and love. You always reap what you sow, sow goodness.
