Sealing the Cracks: The Reality of Modern Depression
Today's culture and norms has a trajectory of seeking help as a sign of weakness. I'm strong enough to..., bold enough to..., and confident/courageous enough to... We are all Hercules, Iron-man, Spiderman and Captain America of our times in our 'marvel wourlds,' yet in reality they don't exist.
It's pathetic that tears are observed as a sign of weakness when expressed through pain and as a sweet gesture as expressed in good memories or joyous moments but, truth is they can be an expression of relief when hurt, in pain or wounded. Most often we end up concealing our pain, wounds and scars; showcasing somewhat flawless selves. Its damaging as it unlocks room to depression.
Depression creeps in the cracks under the conceal and deals with us personally without realising it until its traits protrude. There's nothing wrong with being broken, hurt or pained but how you tackle the situation says a lot. A problem shared is half solved. Don't go about sharing information with literally everyone as it can be damaging when confiding in wrong people and it creates a loophole to your downfall; rather have confidants and proffessional assistance: psychologists or therapists and counsellors. Such people help you get back at your feet. At times vulnerability creates room for positivity. Avoid being a loner but do have some me time and self reflecting moments as you witness your journey, how far you've come or gone.
Depression is a dark hole orchastrated to consume lives, having people being robbed of their glorious future as they wander in misery. It is introduced through shame, pain and failure. Its ultimate goal is winning souls as individuals commit suicide or give up on destiny. It creeps in like water in cracks, be sure to keep your foundation solid. To some it leads to poor medical condition, others obese/gluten and to some loss of weight. Depression is indeed real and we have all it takes to fight it. Real "Marvel" feat isn't being invincible—it’s the courage to admit when the suit is damaged.
Lets join hands in fighting this creature and normalise being a fellow brother's keeper.
