Theatre play: Life's but a shadow 3

 Scene 3

3 months later

Giggles as Kendra and Mpumi enters the lounge dragging their suitcases. "Mom, mom, mom..." they shout. Trisha enters the room in her morning gown and bonnet, holding her cup of coffee. They hugged and sat on couches.

Kendra: Thank you very much, ma, for sponsoring our trip. I really needed that, especially after Tom's departure. 

Trisha: You're most welcome. I can do anything for my daughters, you know. I love you, ladies.

Mpumi: (ecstatic)I now understand why brother married her. She's full of life and spirit. She's adventurous, just like Tom. Hashtag, forever the 'it couple' of the town. (In a low tone) May Thomas's spirit rest in peace. 

Kendra: Amen.

Trisha gasps for air and smiles sheepishly, taking a sip of coffee; Amen 🙏🏻 

Kendra: Mummy, are there any leads on the issue with that lady and her dramatic son?

Trisha: Let's talk later, my love. Just rest for now.

Kendra: But mom, now is the best time. 

Trisha's phone rings, a call from a lawyer, inviting them to a meeting concerning Thomas's will.

Kendra: I received an email with details. So, who is she, ma?

Trisha: (sighs) Soon or later, you'll find out. Let me get to the bottom of this. (Sighs) Her name is Pam, an old friend of Thomas.  Apparently, they had an affair back in the day. That lady is Sipho, a result of their affair. (Sobbing in pain) I still don't understand why Thomas took his life; he could have told us. (Moans).

Tears fall down her face, and Kendra is speechless.

Trisha: What confuses me is that Pam is married. I need answers too. (Grabbing a box dropped from Thomas's work.)  Who knows, we might find some truth in there. 

Kendra pushes the box away, and it falls, scattering all the papers. The two women notice a confidential envelope within his documents and are intrigued to open it.

Apparently, the DNA results state that Thomas has 0% compatibility with Sipho. The two stare at each other in agony, all the same relief of the fact that Sipho isn't Tom's biological son. They go through papers and find a document from the doctor stating that Tom is sterile. They stare at each other in shock.

Stage lights go dark.
