Homecoming Diaries 4: Finale
Slowly the Smiths started adapting to their new lifestyle. Gradually, they gained confidence and found a reason to live once again. Mrs Smith managed to get their old house back, yet a missing void, George disappearance filled their souls. "Only if we could bury him," Edith mumbled.
Edith ordered Sarah to stay a distance from the door as she responded to the knock. Since it was midday and people normally used the front door, she wondered why anyone would use that door. As she opened the door, she gasped and fell on her knees in disbelief, uttering no word. 'Mummy,' Sarah shouted as she ran towards her. George's eyes were teary after seeing his little princess. 'Sarah,' he said softly. 'Daddy,' she screamed as she jumped at him. After a long-paused hug, the two attended to Edith. She was dumb fold.
"Sarah, what's going on, are we being pranked, wake me from this nightmare..." she said in shock. "Baby, is G-e-o-r.., she muted staring at her husband. "I missed you two," George responded. "How is it you are alive, it's you right," she said softly trying to stand up and introspecting if truly it was George or someone who knew their calamity. "Edith, honey... it's me," he said joyously.
Mr Smith narrated how he had survived after getting injured and separating from his troop. He was living in a small village scared that his identity as US Navy soldier will be revealed, leading to his death; so, he had to lay low. The couple embraced themselves, streams of tears of joy ran down their cheeks and they kissed also including Sarah to their warm embrace.
A meal was ordered, and they ate in love. George was devasted upon hearing the news of his late friend Floyd and he paid tribute to the lost soul later that afternoon. The family was forced to adjust to the new norm for everything had changed. Luckily for Sarah, Father's Day was saved.
The End...
