Disability no be by choice!
This poem was inspired by a 'friend' who shared a sad story about an individual without speech (dumb) selling quality fruits in the streets next to a person with the same order, though not so good-looking. People preferred the other fellow which brought suspicion. He later concluded that discrimination, ignorance and lack of proper education was the cause of all & to sum up his story he suggested sign language to be mandatory.
"Disability does not mean inability" ~ Prudence Mabhena
If disability was an outcome of choice, I swear it would have ceased existing. Why focus on the physical impairment not the gorgeous heart? Dear world, we ought to treat each other with respect, love and move forward together.
Disability no be by choice!!!
Born of a woman,
Raised like any other,
Ambitious and self-driven,
Goal oriented,
Yet, I'm limited
Disabled, you call me
Replacing Mama's precious name with your titles
Mute, blind, deaf & dumb...
You've made it,
Adding trails of tags to my name,
Filling the dictionary with words
Only to describe me,
Do I deserve it?
Am I not human too?
Is it by choice, I'm such!
Am I not competent enough
To be a world class citizen,
Just because I'm disadvantaged,
Like the eclipse moon,
My days are...
Filled with uncertainty of tomorrow's schedules
Dark with discrimination preying.
Like prisoners we live,
With society claiming equality,
Yet, failing to exercise it,
We anticipate waking from this nightmare.

Let's advocate change and be that change. We're all equal.
Thank you😊
